The Suffering Savior: Believe, Pray, Forgive
Mark 11:22-25
22 Jesus replied to them, “Have faith in God. 23 Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, everything you pray and ask for — believe that you have received it and it will be yours. 25 And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you your wrongdoing.”

CONSIDER
- Jesus says, “Have faith in God,” not faith in the temple, religious activity, spiritual heritage, or even faith itself. What are some things people can subtly begin to trust in besides God?
- How does the rest of Scripture help us understand Jesus’ promise about prayer and “moving mountains”? Why can’t this mean that God is obligated to give us whatever outcome we want if we have enough faith?
- Where are you most tempted right now to doubt either God’s power or God’s goodness? How does the cross speak to that doubt?
- Is there anyone you are struggling to forgive, or any old hurt you continue to rehearse in your heart? What makes forgiveness feel difficult or even impossible?
- What would it look like this week to pray more like a child coming to a good Father: confidently, dependently, and expectantly?
- What is one concrete step you can take toward forgiveness: praying honestly for your own heart, praying for the person who wronged you, releasing vengeance to God, seeking counsel, or pursuing reconciliation where appropriate?
